Behind the lenses, all of us are suffering and often going through some of the hardest times of our lives, yet we show up in profound ways to honor love. We carve into the heart of our realities, searching for those small glimpses of happiness.
This year has been one of the hardest of my life, professionally as well as personally. Yet I have found ways to show up. And in moments, this work saves me. I think the same occurs for the couples I work with. The stories behind the lens are often darker, and what I create offers a glimpse of that truth. This isn’t only about smiles, but about interweaving the surreal of reality into the mundanity of a wedding—the way love and reality blur together, all as one, and yet disconnected at the same time.
Caitlin and Matt truly spoke to my soul. Our time together was a testament to my love affair with photography and why I love the work I do. I would be honored if this wedding were published, and if somehow the message could be woven into the images as well: that art saves so many of us. Within the pain, within the fibers of a canvas—or for me, in the capturing of imagery—we find meaning. We find survival. We find love.
